Get to Know Haley Orion: Your Personal Composer
Haley Mulvihill is a recording artist and composer from Portland, Oregon. His journey into the world of music began at a young age, with his grandmother teaching him classical guitar and piano. From there, he began to write songs and put on shows for relatives. By 8th grade, Haley was producing music electronically, where he ended up turning it into a side job during high school. He would sell anything people would buy, whether that be beats, sound packs, or mixing. Later on in high school, Mulvihill would go on to compose a piece for his dying grandmother, the same one that started him on this journey, who told him to never give up writing music. In the wake of her death, Haley began writing full compositions and would go on to attend Portland State University to study Sonic Arts and Music Production.
His first album release came right after he graduated high school. At the time he was taking a recording class at PSU, and his professor encouraged him to release the album. He would go on to release multiple singles under the name “Rion Hill” over the following months and years. This quickly accelerated, and he began playing local house shows all around, where he found some success in the emo and punk scene. Being out led him to network with other local artists. He began coaching some and helping to develop their sound; recording them and engineering for them. This gave him experience working with a wide variety of genres, spanning from punk metal to classical piano.
In the wake of the pandemic, Mulvihill struggled to release new music. He began to experiment with composing again; going back to his old roots of music production. Haley would take any clip he found interesting, and rescore it. He later went on to collaborate with fellow composer and friend Jonah Ramey, where they are currently working together on the soundtrack to a new video game called “One Piece: Path to Dawn” set to release in 2026. Currently, Haley is working on a theme song for a brand new Horror TV show that’s yet to be named, set to release in the fall of 2024 on YoutubeTV.
Post pandemic, Mulvihill found a new hobby in writing custom music for Dungeons and Dragons campaigns. He began writing theme songs for characters, custom pieces for encounters in the game, and much more. He also began working on small gigs from Fiverr, where he would complete odd jobs for those that hired him. He still works on both his film scoring and game compositions, and on the side rents out studio time.
